Maxpedition Jumbo Versapack: A murse for the tough guy -May 5th, 2008

Maxpedition Versapack and Stiv
Oh the irony! A short time ago I had posted online some photos from a trip I’d taken to Peru and Mr. Grey proceeded into chiding me about my Maxpedition Jumbo Versapack that I had slung on me. I weathered his slings and arrows knowing in my heart that despite what he said, owning one did make me a *tough guy* and it wasn’t the other way around!

Being the upright guy that he is, his decision the have me write a brief review of the “Jumbo Versapack” is the right thing to do for all you professional adventurers.

I was faced with a sort of dilemma when I travelled, as a photographer I needed a bag that wasn’t a camera bag strictly speaking, but I also needed a bag that would work as a light carry on piece and as a stretch as a day pack. I started to notice in Delta press’s catalog and Russell for men in their catalog also Maxpedition’s products listed for sale, and judging from the dimensions and the styling they looked to be just the fit I was looking for, and sure enough they were.

The best thing about the Versapack is it’s really well constructed with water resistant heavy duty ballistic nylon, large YKK zippers, Velcro all over the place and I’m still finding pockets, snaps and other doohickeys all over it. It even has a special zipped compartment if you’d like to conceal carry, if you know what I mean.

The only real downside to this bag can be forgetting in which pocket you’ve put what, but unless you’re carrying something you have to worry about this very same facet will vex most airport security checks as they seem to give up checking the bag after about the fifth pocket or compartment and that’s a real plus in my book.

Maxpedition has at this time a whole slew of bags, briefcases and now seem to be expanding into their own line of larger back packs.

All in all these bags aren’t cheap, but then again they aren’t cheaply made either, I bought mine on the front end of their entry into the market and since then they’ve added many new models and sizes of packs and styles. I just picked up their day pack a short time ago and I love it, chances are they have something that will fit your particular needs and specifications.

I hope I don’t get hit on by guys too much – how do you deal with that Stiv – or do you just go with the flow?
